Overall Impressions

Category rating:
Argosy's card room has the most action out of the three closest casinos. They always offer a nice variety of no limit and limit games. We've never been there and not found the game we wanted to play. I don't remember a time when they weren't offering at both $1/3 and $2/5 NL and $3/6 and $6/12 FL. In addition, they usually offer $5/10 NL and $10/20 FL, occasionally spreading Omaha as well – weekends being your best bet for that.

Atmosphere

The room could be a bit larger to accomodate the amount of tables they utilize, but given that it was added into the existing boat, it is still a nice card room. I'm hoping that when their new boat is up and running (I'm told now that it will be 2009) that it will alleviate some of the space issues. The tables are nice and still on the newer side at around a year old. The chairs are relatively comfortable – most chairs get uncomfortable after 7 hours or so!

There are really only three things that are ever issues for me with that card room and I think both will be corrected on the new boat. First, the ladies restroom is on the complete opposite end of the boat. Actually, the mens room isn't that close either, but much closer in relation to the ladies room. Second, it can get a bit unpleasant at the outer perimeter of the card room on the weekends when it is extra smokey in the casino. People tend to stand right outside the card room and the smoke is bound to come in from that close. (Maybe that wouldn't bother some people, but it's bad if you have allergies.) Lastly, if you go to the Argosy, no matter what time of year it is, take a sweater or jacket. I swear sometimes you could hang meat in there! Men complain about the temperature in there too at times, so I know it's not just me!

Dealers

Category rating:
My husband and I are at Argosy's poker room a minimum of once a week. We were there practically daily the first months they were open in 2006. All of the floor supervisors and the majority of dealers there in the evenings/late nights know us by name. They are, with few exceptions, very friendly and they keep the lists and games moving as quickly and effieciently as possible. The dealers know the games well and are able to handle anything thrown at them. No complaints here!

Food and Drink

Category rating:
Most of the time the cocktail servers are around what seems like every 10 minutes. On exceptionally busy nights, you may wait 20 minutes to a half hour between server visits, but that is rare. There is a bar located very close the poker room for those nights. Late nights or weeknights are your best bets for getting food service from the cocktail servers. Most times they are simply too busy to run up to the next floor for a sandwich, but that snack shop is just up above the poker room and they will hold your seat for up to an hour and 15 minutes if you want to take a break for food or just to take a break from poker. You just post your missed blind(s) when you return.

Wait Time/Overall Service

Category rating:
They have an electronically displayed wait list that shows limits, which tables are running what games and names. Everyone at the front desk is helpful and friendly and you just give your first name and last initial if you're waiting within earshot, as they announce names when seats are ready. If you care to go to the other levels for table games or slots while you're waiting, they'll hold you're driver's license and give you a pager. They can usually give you a fairly accurate estimate on your wait time when you sign up for a game. I know for sure that regular players there can call ahead to be added to the list, I'm pretty sure anyone else can too. You just let them know when you arrive so they can check you in, otherwise, if you're more than an hour your name falls off the list, so be sure to check in!

On most weeknights you won't wait much longer than 15 – 20 minutes for a table. I'd say by Thursday the wait starts to get a bit longer. Most Fridays and Saturdays, though, you could be waiting as long as 1-1/2 – 2 hours. On those nights it's best to get there early in the evening or call ahead. In recent weeks, I've heard people who are getting there later talking about how they waited in line to actually get onto the boat itself and then they had to wait for a seat as well. Not to worry, though, they have games running all night and they don't usually start thinning out until 3 am or later. They may have to combine a table or 2, but they are always running.

Comps

Category rating:
Right now, you get $1 per hour of play. Your comp points can be used for any of the restaurants at Argosy, and you can get a ticket at the front desk in the poker room, any of the comp desks or you can check your balance and print tickets at the self-comping machines outside the casino in the entrance lobby.
