Twice in three tries

Adanthar I didn't play the Sunday Million last week and went out early the week before, but tonight, I made another deep run in the biggest tourney of the week to get a 40th place finish. I actually got it in behind a couple of times for a change and played a couple of hands questionably, but mostly made the right plays at the right times again until losing a consecutive flip and 62/38 very late (sigh). Two of these kinds of deep runs in nearly consecutive tries really does mean a lot, though.

Here's a fun hand against a guy that had been getting away with playing 40/30 or so for an entire hour:

Question. It turns out that the guy had nothing and picked up a gutshot draw, but do you really think it's good to play so passively here and basically let him catch up and take all your chips? I just don't see this being good in most situation. Even if he's way too loose, even loose players get cards from time to time. I just don't see this being a good way to play your trips. I don't mind the call PF and the flop check is okay but the check on the turn -- especially given the draw heavy board? I assume you were confident he would bet for you on either the flop or turn, but once he checked the flop I just cannot see the turn check being right. What am I missing here?

Okay. We have just about a PSB left on the flop after calling PF, so the question is what he will bluff with vs. hit (and shove when checked to) with vs. call a shove with, given my read is he has just about any two.

After his flop check (BTW, my flop check is automatic on any board unless the flop came something ridiculous like 3 middle clubs), he a)never has an ace and b)will almost never call a push on the turn. So the only question is whether he's going to bluff shove at some point, and the chance that he'll do that with two random cards greatly outweighs my need to protect the pot given that he has an equal amount behind.

Against a player like that, I think you have to suck it up and not be afraid to get drawn out on. Let him make the mistake.
