Behold the grossness that is poker! $2/4 NL on Bodog playing my tight, aggro game--premium cards and pairs, no connectors, no suited baby aces.
I raise with AA in MP...small blind calls. Q high flop...checks to me I bet the pot...about $45...SB calls. Turn is a J. SB pushes for his last $75. Ok, whatever...I call. He shows QJo and scoops $300.
A few hands later...I'm in the BB with AA. UTG limps...buttons raises...I reraise...utg pushes. Button folds, I call. UTG shows...Q9s. Nice. Flushes me and scoops a $200+ pot. Ok, whatever.
Then, I've reloaded and worked back up to $500.
Limped to me in MP with 88. I raise to $12. Small blind raises to $25. Called around. $125 pot. Flop is QT8...two spades, one club. Small blind bets the pot. One caller to me. I push for the rest of my stack...call it $450 more. Call. Call. Uh oh.
Small blind turns over Ac Qc...NICE...he's 6% to win.
EP caller turns over Jd Tc...ok...he's about 20% to win.
Doing the math...I'm 75% to win.
Turn's a T. I'm boated. JTo is dead. River's a Q to give the AQc queens full. He pulls the $1500 pot. Ok, now that was gross.
If you add that to the guy that drew out his flush on my set earlier in the day, of the roughly $4000 that I managed to get in today with odds in my favor of anywhere from 65-95%, I scooped exactly $0.
Now, my tight, aggro game doesn't allow for stupid connectors, but occasionally the blinds give occasion to enjoy them.
I'm in the BB with 74c. 3 limpers to me, I call. $16 pot. Flop is K63, all clubs. I bet the pot. MP limper re-raises me. I'm thinking ok, I can't see anymore clubs. He may have a flush, but he could have TP, two pair, set, etc. I push for about $350, I've got him covered by about $100. He thinks...thinks...thinks...then calls. Shows 85c and is holding my only out.
Later, I'm in the BB with A5d. Limpers to me. Flop is Axx, two diamonds. I check. EP bets the pot, two callers. Math says I have to call, but I hate it. I consider raising, but again, the callers bummed me out. Is there a set out there? I just call. Turn is an 8. I check. Same bet and call bull**** giving me just about perfect odds to call on pot odds alone. I call. River is 8d...I make my flush, but the 8 pairs the turn card. I check. Push. Push. I lay down the A-high flush, they both show boats. As it was, the one diamond that hurts me came on the river. I didn't even want to be in the hand in the first place and burned $200 on the damn thing.
I love this game.
