Online Poker, the do's and dont's!

Please before you read this blog, understand that I am NOT dissing online poker play or saying that it is a bad thing. I love online poker and play it A LOT. This legislation that passed isn’t going to damper Online Play either, so again remember, I love online play, just giving my .02.

Online Poker!!! WOW that is all I can say, just WOW!!! I played my first hand ever in an online poker room, and I haven’t stopped playing poker since. Online Poker has its pro's and con's (and I don't mean professionals and convicts, which it probably has as well :) ). Online poker is becoming one of the most talked about and easiest ways to play poker. Think about it, you wake up, get a cup of coffee, and sit down still in your PJ's and play some poker. You don't have to get dressed, you don't have to leave the house and drive to the casino, and it works out perfectly.

Online poker is great for anybody, whether you have been playing the game for years or just started today. You can play with "fake" money to learn the game, or deposit real money to press your luck. They offer tournaments out the ying yang, anything from cheap seats into main events, to free rolls, to even high dollar tournaments.

All of that sounds great right.....it can be, and quite frankly it is. Let’s say you flipped on the T.V. last night and saw the WSOP main event and thought, "man I want to play poker seems easy enough." Your right the game of poker is easy to learn, and play. So you think to yourself....ok all of my buddies play, but I don't want to walk into a home game, lay $10 or $20 on the line and look like a chump when I don't have a clue what I'm doing. So you search online for poker rooms, or you find one on a commercial and download the software.

Be careful!!!! There are two types of online poker players, the kind that care about the game and the one’s who could care less and to me seem like they are just on the site to be a pest, or as Mike the Mouth would say “Donkeys”! Online poker in my opinion is the best way to learn how to play the game. You can get good advice from other players; learn how to play your hand, and how the game works from a whole. My only problem with online play is as I mentioned above, players who don’t care. While playing online I have seen way to many people with the best hands get beat, by crap, and I mean crap! I have seen pocket Kings, Queen’s, Ace’s, Big Slick and other great card get beat by 3 9, 5 8, 2, 10. I mean really, in real cash games, or tournaments, you probably wouldn’t play those cards….unless you were chip leader by a massive amount and were just seeing what you could pull off.

I have also seen tournaments; mostly free rolls that have the same outcome. My first free roll I played I got dealt A K on my first hand, the guy before me went all in….I thought about it for a moment and really didn’t want to get beat, especially by a bad beat. Well before my timer went off I called, he ended up having something stupid like 3 8. I’m glad I called him because I ended up getting two pair and sent him packing; well he probably went to another table and did the same thing. It really upsets me to see play like this in tourneys, because they are limited to a certain amount of players, and people who do this, are just wasting space for others that want to play, or learn the game. Also, the fact that it takes time to register and then wait on the tournament to start, so why come in after waiting all that time and getting lucky to get a spot, just to waste your time as well as others.

All in all I love online play, great way to learn, and practice. Just beware of the Donkeys!
