All in from late position

I find myself in a unique situation in life, one which affords me the opportunity to do something that most people would scoff at. I’m going to pursue a career in poker. If I were to somehow send a message back in time a few years and tell myself this, I’d probably make an appointment with a psychiatrist in an effort to prevent whatever mental disorder is starting to take hold. Even now it seems a little odd, starting at 40 years old when most people start playing in their early 20’s. And the popularity has been going on for some time, so I’m not exactly getting in on the start of the poker craze.
My friends don’t take it seriously, they think I’m going thru some “thing” and will eventually settle back into some 9-5. My cousin even expressed fears that I was going to get my knee-caps broken by mobsters, much to my amusement. So there is certainly some misinformation out there about playing poker.
Despite all this, I’m going forward. I’m in the ideal place in life to do this, I have no obligations, no family and a bit of extra cash. But most importantly, I have a game that is good enough to work with. I may never get rich off of it; I may never do better than minimum wage. But I’ll never have to punch a clock, and the only people I will take abuse from are people I will soon be taking money from.
Who knows, as my game improves you may be seeing me at a big final table one day. Okay, one step at a time.
